Cult Design at Singapore Design Week 2025

REINVENTION at Singapore Science Park

In a world of rapid change and constant creation, Singapore Science Park’s district activation for Singapore Design Week 2025 explores the power of REINVENTION, not as a one-time breakthrough, but as a continuous, adaptive process.
Curated by OuterEdit and CapitaLand, the transforming Geneo precinct becomes a living laboratory of installations, prototypes, conversations, and experiments. Here, visitors are invited to reflect on what it means to reimagine and reconfigure our collective future.
Cult Design’s Contribution: Mater × Cult
Cult Design proudly presents an installation spotlighting Mater’s Conscious Collection, running from 11–21 September at the Science Park.
At REINVENTION, we’ve chosen to spotlight a series of pieces crafted from coffee and wood waste using Mater’s groundbreaking Matek® material, a composite developed from upcycled fibrous waste such as coffee bean husks, sawdust, fishing nets, and even discarded beer kegs. Through innovative press-moulding techniques, Matek® achieves a tactile surface with the look and feel of stone or marble, yet with the adaptability of modern composites.
On display is the Alder Collection, a versatile outdoor series designed by OEO Studio, which demonstrates how sustainable materials can also deliver refined, architectural silhouettes. The Conscious Chair and Eternity Side Chair each embody Mater’s commitment to sustainability while celebrating Danish design heritage, offering lightweight yet durable seating made for everyday use. The Compound Lounge brings soft curves and generous proportions into focus, creating a sculptural lounge piece with circular design at its core. Smaller objects, like the Bowl Table (Waste Edition) and the Terra Portable Lamp, showcase how Matek® can be adapted into timeless accessories that blend craftsmanship with innovation.
Together, these pieces form part of Mater’s celebrated Conscious Collection, a family of designs that reimagine waste as a resource. This display not only demonstrates the aesthetic and functional potential of circular materials, but also underlines the enduring ethos of sustainable craftsmanship that sits at the heart of Mater’s design philosophy.
This display not only showcases sustainable craftsmanship, but also highlights the circular design ethos driving these transformative creations.
Designing for Longevity

On 20 September, Cult Design’s own Richard Munao will join a panel discussion hosted by Never Too Small, centred on the theme of Longevity. Richard will discuss iconic and enduring design at Cult, with a focus on how Cultivated extends the life of timeless pieces through restoration, refurbishment, and ongoing care. It’s a conversation about lasting value in design, both aesthetic and ethical.
