Denmark's annual design event, 3 Days of Design, returned from 15 – 17 June in Copenhagen with a city-wide showcase of new design launches, workshops, talks, and parties. The streets were buzzing with energy and passion for design, and our CULT team from Singapore, Australia and New Zealand had such an inspiring time reconnecting with our brand partners.

Read on for personal highlights and imagery from our Singapore Business Development Manager, Ravi Shankar, and download our complete 3 Days of Design 2022 Report and News Index covering all product news and trends for a comprehensive summary of the fair.

1. Vipp Pencil Factory.

In a Copenhagen backyard in Islands Brygge, Vipp has transformed a 100-year-old pencil factory into a social dining space dedicated to sharpening your senses. Safeguarding the original factory features of the space while igniting an intimate and homey feeling was the brief given to interior designer, Julie Cloos Mølsgaard, who led the pencil in the transformation.

"The space is laid out as a massive studio apartment and the Vipp aesthetic (everything in there was Vipp, naturally) is such a great balance of timeless elegance and industrial chic," shares Ravi

2. HAY House.

Located in an art nouveau-style building on Amagertorv in central Copenhagen, Hay House spans four floors and has been home to the Danish interior and homewares brand for years.

"Depending on which street you access it from, HAY House really is the highlight to a visit to Copenhagen. It’s the perfect location overlooking a lively courtyard and enthrals you even before you’ve stepped into any of the wonderful 4 floors," shares Ravi.

3. HAY Palissade collection.

Palissade is a collection of outdoor furniture designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for HAY. The collection was designed to fit a wide variety of environments: cafés, restaurants, gardens, terraces and balconies. The construction allows a wide range of typologies with a common formal language. From stools and benches to chairs and tables, lounge chairs and sofas – the collection comprises 13 different elements, united not only by their graphical image but also by their common characteristics: they are strong without being bulky, elegant without being fragile.

"Copenhagen is a testament to the success of the Palissade collection. It’s ubiquity outside numerous café’s and bars round every corner was surprising and refreshing coming from Singapore where F&B establishments tend to cheap out on outdoor furniture," shares Ravi.

4. HAY Pastis Chair and Table collection.

Pastis is a new collection of tables and chairs by Julien Renault for HAY.

"I can see this being a great contract product range with the comfort offered by the chairs, their stackability and the versatility of the table range to fit any indoor environment," shares Ravi.

5. GUBI Doric Table by GamFratesi.

Throughout 3daysofdesign, GUBI presented a special celebration of al fresco living, opening the showroom for a one-of-a-kind exhibition of outdoor furniture, as well as featuring new collections by renowned 20th-century visionaries such as Joe Colombo and contemporary design duo GamFratesi.

The Doric Coffee Table by GamFratesi takes its name from the Doric order of ancient Greek – and later Roman – architecture. The defining feature of the Doric Tables is the inward curve of the legs, the result of material subtraction from a simple shape. Available in two sizes and two types of natural stone, travertine or limestone.

"Just a beautiful item with a simple architectural detail," shares Ravi.

6. Vipp goes 'Back to Beige'

A tribute to the design heritage that Holger Nielsen initiated when he crafted the iconic Vipp pedal bin in 1939, Vipp introduces an interpretation of the very first colour he chose for his bin - Holger's Beige.

"The new beige finish is on point for a much needed freshening of the series," shares Ravi.

7. &Tradition Wulff Armchair

For 3 Days of Design 2022 &Tradition hosted 'The Home of &Tradition' exhibition at the brand's revitalised headquarters - a 20th century three-storey mansion in central Copenhagen - invited visitors to experience masterly design with personality. The complete collection was on show, and the highlight for our team was seeing the Wulff Chair in person, a design which pays tribute to the hand-crafted designs of the 1930's. Wulff promises superior craftsmanship and outstanding comfort with luxuriantly soft upholstery that covers its seat and backrest. Intended as a lounge chair for the living room or bedroom, its architectural shape adds a stylish statement to any interior.

"One of the most comfortable lounge chairs I have ever sat in," shares Ravi.
